welcome

Welcome to the website of the beautiful, historic Church of St Paul's, Burwood, an Anglican parish in the inner-western suburbs of Sydney.

At St Paul's you will find a welcoming community of people who value Christian fellowship and traditional Anglican worship sometimes referred to as "High Church".

As a congregation committed to spreading the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, we seek to share God's unconditional love for all people, through prayer, praise, fellowship and our varied ministries.

Wherever you are on your spiritual journey, we would be delighted to welcome you as a parishioner or have you join us at one of our regular services or parish activities.

Information about our services of worship and activities is provided on other pages of the website. The site also provides information for those wishing to arrange baptism (infant or adult), their wedding, a funeral, or to hire one of the church halls.

As you explore our website, please offer a prayer for us, our ministry in Burwood, the Anglican Communion, and the whole Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fr John Kohler
Eighth Rector of St Paul's Burwood

"High Tea in the Grand Manner": On Sunday, 18 October 2009, the parish hosted a High Tea in the Rectory. It was a magnificent afternoon, thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended. Photos from the High Tea are available in our Photo Gallery. Our sincere thanks go to Pam Brock and all who assisted her in making the afternoon such a memorable one for the parish.

Farewell to Father John and Gay Kohler: On Friday, 6 February 2009, almost 200 parishioners and friends of St Paul's gathered for Choral Evensong and supper to farewell, honour and thank Father John and Gay Kohler at the conclusion of their ministry in Burwood. The same number had gathered on the previous Sunday for Father John's final Eucharist as Rector, which was followed by a parish morning tea. Each occasion provided an opportunity for the parish and the wider community to wish Father John and Gay every blessing as they move into retirement from full-time ministry.

The parish was honoured by the presence of The Right Reverend Robert Forsythe, Bishop of South Sydney, as guest preacher at the Sunday Eucharist, and The Right Reverend Peter Watson, former Bishop of South Sydney and Archbishop of Melbourne, who attended the Choral Evensong and supper. Bishop Forsythe paid great tribute to Father John's ministry during his address and Bishop Watson bestowed a moving blessing on Father John and Gay at the conclusion of the evensong service.

Note: This site is still under construction and will be improved as time permits.
